the Six Realms

John Churchill, PSY.D.

August 1-7, 2022

Join us in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains (or at home, online) at the historic Shambhala Center in downtown Boulder, Colorado from August 1st - 7th for the Six Realms Retreat; a summer contemplative psychology and practice retreat.

Our retreat will be a deep group immersion in the transformative dynamics of Buddhist psychology through the integral ekayana (one vehicle) approach to contemplative practice.

The ekayana integrates healing the reactivity of personal trauma (hinayana), releasing the fixations of mind that obscure clear-light knowing and compassionate interdependence with the collective field (mahayana), and the recognition of ever-present holographic essence (Vajrayana).

The practice will be framed by the Bhavachakra - the Buddha’s Wheel of Life; a dharmic and cosmological map of multi-generational and trans-incarnation trauma, and its resolution. Understanding the Wheel of Life will give your practice greater precision and expand your insight into the conditioning of our collective experience.

We will review the the 12-links of Dependent Origination and deepen our exploration into liberating the six realms that are the holographic basis of samsara.

Hosted at the Shambhala Center, you will spend your days in a contemplative retreat setting, surrounded by the abundant resources of Pearl Street in downtown Boulder.

Location

The retreat will be held at the Boulder Shambhala Center located at 1345 Spruce Street, Boulder, CO 80302. Please plan on booking your own accommodations close to this location, either though Air BnB, VRBO, or any of the hotels located in the downtown Boulder area.

Pearl Street: Downtown Boulder, Colorado

From the loss of recognizing the open wisdom mind comes the fusion with the attentional system. This confusion (pig) leads to aversion (snake) and attachment (bird) which generates positive (white) and negative (black) experience through the six different dimensions of experience (god, Demi-god, human, animal, hungry ghost, hell) driven by the momentum of the 12-links of traumatic mind-body-energy conditioning.

Tibetan Thanka: Bhavachakra, the mechanism of samsara, the traumatic compulsive activity hologram.
